6-4-2017 Empowered Truth-Sayers - Pentecost

Sermon: “Empowered Truth-Sayers”

Focus: Spirit

Reflection: The Family Continued

The Holy Spirit descends and suddenly the world is changed forever. The influence of the Spirit meant that the apostles became bold and strong and were able to speak with clarity communicating God’s love to all. This is our gift too. We have the gift of the Spirit in our lives, encouraging and empowering. As you prepare for worship today, invite the Spirit to fill you, inspire you and move you to share God’s love and grace with those you meet.

Hymns We Will Sing:

*HYMN #286  “Breathe on Me, Breath of God”                      (TRENTHAM)

*HYMN #291   “Spirit, Spirit of Gentleness”                                   (SPIRIT)

*HYMN #469   “Lord, Listen to Your Children Praying”   (LIVING GOD)

Preparing for May 28, 2017

May 28, 2017

Story: Galatians 3:1-9; 23-29 (p. 1062-3, Pew Bible)

5-28-2017 Free Climbing Faithful

Sermon: “Free Climbing Faithful”

Focus: Inclusive

Reflection: The Family United

We hear again from Paul and again it may sound strident and uncompromising. But, the crux of the matter is that we are all united together through Jesus Christ, and through him we become one family together. This is the Good News! All—that is everyone! All humanity is part of this inheritance, and there is no difference of creed, color, race: we are all God’s children. As you prepare today, give thanks to God for this world wide family, and pray for those who do not realize the gift that is theirs for the taking.

Hymns We Will Sing:

*HYMN #246                        “Christ Is Alive!”                              (TRURO)

*HYMN #337                 “My Country ’Tis of Thee                        (AMERICA)

*HYMN #318                  “In Christ There Is No East or West”     (ST. PETER)

Preparing for May 21, 2017 Worship

Story: Galatians 1:13-17; 2:11-21   (p. 1061-2, Pew Bible)

Sermon: “Trust in God’s Grace”

Focus: Love

Reflection: Living By Faith

Today we hear a tale of conflict and compromise. Paul is indignant that Peter has been compromising in order to appease differing factions. Paul appears to be beyond this, and condemns Peter for his perceived weakness. To us his attitude may seem uncompromising and arrogant; it may feel that Paul’s standards are so high as to be unreachable and unrealistic. But. Underlying all of his harsh words is the gift of grace which can help us through the most difficult of situations. As you prepare for worship, consider the times when you have compromised, or held back in order to keep the peace or avoid confrontation. Pray for guidance in your decision-making so that you will discern God’s leading.

Hymns We Will Sing:

*HYMN #438     “Rock of Ages, Cleft for Me”                 (TOPLADY)

*HYMN #366     “Love Divine, All Loves Excelling”      (HYFRYDOL)

*HYMN #353     “My Hope Is Built on Nothing Less”    (SOLID ROCK)
