Psalm 98 The Unsung Chorus "Make a joyful noise to the Lord, all the earth; break forth into joyous song."
The psalmist speaks in fanfare. But the man who'd spent most of his life with his hands in the dirt said it wasn't like that. The earth, when she gives up her yield, gives way to triumphal rest. Having toiled, there's a deeply satisfying sigh. With peace, she welcomes a restorative blanket of snow and a reprieve from pushing produce ever upward. The crisp evening and morning air stills the world; the soil lies fallow, letting go of the sun's energy for a while. The sound is nearly silence.
PRAY: O God, the earth resounds with the chorus of rest. May we hear your invitation for us to rest, confident in your goodness and the promise of your provision. Amen.
