Reflection on the Season

The Welcome, News and Announcements

The Introit

The Call to Worship
Jim Mason
One: Holy God, you not only comfort us but you also challenge us. Your Word awakens us to love justice.
All: Lord, make us whole and keep us true to your word.
One: Holy God, you bring justice to those who are marginalized. Help us to be advocates of what is right.
All: Lord, make us whole and keep us true to your word.
One: May our worship this morning flow into our actions, our resources, our attitudes and our relationships.
All: Lord, make us whole and keep us true to your word.
One: God has shown us what is good. What does the Holy One require of us,
but to do justice, and to love kindness, and to walk humbly with our God.

Prayer of Confession
Jim Mason
Let us approach with a true heart, in full assurance of faith, with our hearts sprinkled clean and our bodies washed with pure water. Let us hold fast to the confession of our hope without wavering, for the one who has promised is faithful. Amen.

Hymn #7 “Mothering God, You Gave Me Birth”

The Hebrew Scripture Reading Isaiah 41:8-10
Jim Mason

“But you, Israel, my servant,
Jacob, whom I have chosen,
you descendants of Abraham my friend,
9 I took you from the ends of the earth,
from its farthest corners I called you.
I said, ‘You are my servant’;
I have chosen you and have not rejected you.
10 So do not fear, for I am with you;
do not be dismayed, for I am your God.
I will strengthen you and help you;
I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.

Message for the Young at Heart

Hymn #432 “How Clear Is Our Vocation, Lord”

The New Testament Lesson Mark 11:15-18
Jim Mason

And they came to Jerusalem. And he entered the temple and began to drive out those who sold and those who bought in the temple, and he overturned the tables of the money-changers and the seats of those who sold pigeons. 16 And he would not allow anyone to carry anything through the temple. 17 And he was teaching them and saying to them, “Is it not written, ‘My house shall be called a house of prayer for all the nations’? But you have made it a den of robbers.” 18 And the chief priests and the scribes heard it and were seeking a way to destroy him, for they feared him, because all the crowd was astonished at his teaching.
{Note to Liturgist: When you are finished reading the lesson, and before you sit down, please take a sani-wipe and smooth it over the microphone. Thank you very much for your service to Christ.}

The Doxology

The Unison Prayer of Dedication
We come before you grateful for the blessings of life that are all around us: the beauty of the season, the food we will eat when we leave this place, the family that cares for us; the friends that support us. We return just a small portion of what we have received, to join with other gifts, to make a collective impact on our world. Guide us in our use of these resources as we prepare for the Kingdom of God.

The Joys and Concerns

The People’s Prayer and the Lord’s Prayer
…Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be your name,
your kingdom come, your will be done,
on earth as it is in heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread;
and forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors;
and lead us not into temptation,
but deliver us from evil.
For thine is the kingdom,
and the power, and the glory, forever. Amen
