The Mission of the First Presbyterian Church of Ulysses
We are:
An active Presbyterian Church dedicated to belief in the Holy Spirit, God the Creator, and Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior. We celebrate the Lord’s presence in music, word, and deed. We participate in mission efforts within and beyond our church walls and offer companionship to those in need.
We want to be and become:
A warm congregation, welcoming and alive, vibrant with music and the Word, reaching out to share God’s love, visible in our community, attracting new disciples of all ages, nurturing and inspiring individuals and families at every stage of their Christian spiritual journey.
Other things important to us are:
• Forgiveness • Lay leadership • Christian education • Sharing the peace of Christ • Commitment to volunteer service • Acceptance, compassion and respect for others • Learning from each other through intergenerational fellowship • Nurturing our youth to be active, Christian disciples • Ministering and receiving ministry • Active engagement in the life of the church • Being good stewards of our blessings • Being open to change, with respect for our traditions and history (adopted May, 2008)

Sovereign of sovereigns, you dazzle us by your glory. You alone are immortal. The life you give to all living things is marvelous and to live in your presence is a great honor. We now express our thanks by making a faithful confession in the presence of many witnesses, living our lives as best we are able, and praying the prayer that Jesus taught his disciples to boldly pray:

The Hebrew Scripture Reading Exodus 2:2-10
2 Now a man from the house of Levi went and married a Levite woman. 2 The woman conceived and bore a son; and when she saw that he was a fine baby, she hid him three months. 3 When she could hide him no longer she got a papyrus basket for him, and plastered it with bitumen and pitch; she put the child in it and placed it among the reeds on the bank of the river. 4 His sister stood at a distance, to see what would happen to him.
5 The daughter of Pharaoh came down to bathe at the river, while her attendants walked beside the river. She saw the basket among the reeds and sent her maid to bring it. 6 When she opened it, she saw the child. He was crying, and she took pity on him. “This must be one of the Hebrews’ children,” she said. 7 Then his sister said to Pharaoh’s daughter, “Shall I go and get you a nurse from the Hebrew women to nurse the child for you?” 8 Pharaoh’s daughter said to her, “Yes.” So the girl went and called the child’s mother. 9 Pharaoh’s daughter said to her, “Take this child and nurse it for me, and I will give you your wages.” So the woman took the child and nursed it. 10 When the child grew up, she brought him to Pharaoh’s daughter, and she took him as her son. 2 Cents A Meal and Non-Perishable Food Offering – Today, October 4, we will receive our 2 Cents A Meal and Non-Perishable Food Offering. Many thanks to all who give to help neighbors in need. The money is given in grants through the Presbytery of Geneva to help food pantries feed hungry people and the food goes to the Trumansburg Food Pantry.
