Reflections for June 21, 2015

1 Samuel 17:(1a, 4–11, 19–23), 32–49

“You come to me with sword and spear and javelin; but I come to you in the name of the Lord of hosts, the God of the people of Israel, whom you have defied.”

Others can come toward us with all sorts of weapons – literally and figuratively. We can feel threatened and attacked. And we may feel like we are defenceless. Yet the scripture reminds us that we need not respond in kind, but rather can use our awareness of God’s presence in our lives, and the examples of Jesus, to respond not with violence but with a compassion and understanding. Reflect on times when you have felt confronted by something insurmountable. How did you respond?

This week, imagine ways you will use the gifts of God to diffuse a difficult situation.
