Thursday Lenten Study
Each Thursday afternoon in Lent from 1-2 p.m, we will gather at the Falls Restaurant to discuss that week’s devotions from The Upper Room Disciplines 2015: A Book of Daily Devotions. The book can be purchased at Amazon or other booksellers. We welcome those beyond our own congregation to take part with us. If you have questions, please contact Pastor Cheryl.
The questions we will ask as part of this study each week include:
• What Scripture passages and meditations from this week were particularly meaningful for you? Why?
• What actions were you challenged to take in response to this week’s meditations?
• Where were you challenged in your discipleship this week? How did you respond to the challenge?
• Based on today’s discussion, what people and situations do you want us to pray for now and in the coming week?
Sunday Studies Series
Our Lenten Adult Study, which meets at 9:10 a.m. on Sunday mornings in the Lange Room of the Chapel, will be “Jesus, beyond the crucifixion: burial and resurrection.”
Week one: Examining Jewish views of death and burial practices at the time of Jesus’s death.
Weeks two through four: The scriptural stories and how they vary (Gospels and beyond) and some reasons why.
Week five: Some understandings and interpretations of the resurrection in history; implications for us today?
Lent is a time of reflection, but we do know the outcome of this part of the story, as we exclaim on Easter, “He is risen!” We can use our study time this year to deepen our knowledge and understanding of the miracle of God’s grace, in the form of His risen Son.
