1 Kings 17:8-24

“Elijah said…‘Do not be afraid…’”

Elijah encounters a woman who has nothing – only “a handful of meal and a little oil.” She plans to eat one last meal with her son before they die. But Elijah has faith that somehow God will provide for them, and asks her to make him a cake. God provides, and yet when a short time later the woman’s son dies, even Elijah asks God what is happening. As the child’s life is restored, Elijah and the child’s mother find their faith in God is strengthened.
